HOUSTON — The international law firm of Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P. today announced that Stephen Pate, a partner in the firm’s Houston office, has received the John Alan Appleman Award from the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC). The award is given to the section chair who makes the most outstanding contribution to the advancement of the Federation’s educational goals through the work of his or her section. Pate currently is chair of the Federation’s Property Insurance Section.
“Receipt of the Appleman Award is a reflection of Steve’s commitment to the Federation and his outstanding leadership abilities,” said Dudley Oldham, Fulbright partner and past president of the FDCC. “I am very proud of him for being honored with this award and know that he will continue to make a positive impact on the organization in the future.”
Pate, a partner since 1994, focuses his practice on construction litigation, first party insurance litigation, commercial coverage litigation, fraud, extracontractual and insurance litigation. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute and the Texas Association of Defense Counsel. Pate received a B.A., magna cum laude and a J.D. from Vanderbilt University.
The FDCC is an international organization of corporate counsel, attorneys involved in the defense of civil litigation, risk managers and insurance claims executives. Membership is by invitation only and is limited to only 1,000 attorneys in private practice. The Appleman award was instituted in 1984 and is named after John Appleman, author of “Appleman on Insurance,” a noted legal scholar, and past president of the Federation.
