James T. Giles of Pepper Hamilton Honored by Barristers’ Association

Philadelphia, Pa. (LAWFUEL) – January 23, 2009 – The Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia honored James T. Giles, former Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and now of counsel to Pepper Hamilton LLP, at its annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast in Philadelphia on January 19, 2009.

Mr. Giles received the Barristers’ Association’s Honorable William F. Hall, Jr. Award, which recognizes an attorney who has made a significant contribution in the areas of social justice, peace, education, civil rights or public health.

Mr. Giles also delivered the keynote address at the event, titled “Now It’s Our Time to Be Free at Last,” using the theme from Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech delivered at the March on Washington on August 28, 1963.

Mr. Giles is a member of Pepper Hamilton’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department. He joined the firm in October 2008, after serving on the bench of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania for more than 28 years.

The Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia, an affiliate of the National Bar Association, is dedicated to enhancing the careers of African-American attorneys in the greater Philadelphia area through networking and employment opportunities and social interaction. The organization offers continuing legal education workshops, community service and outreach programs, mentoring programs for law students and new attorneys, and lawyer referral services for the African-American community. It was established in 1950.
