About the role

VINCI Energies New Zealand is seeking to appoint a sole Senior Legal Counsel for New Zealand. Based in Mount Wellington, this is a newly created leadership role that will establish the organisation’s dedicated legal function and provide strategic legal advice to the New Zealand business of VINCI Energies and other VE APAC business units, as required. 

Reporting to the APAC General Counsel based in Brisbane Australia and working collaboratively with the APAC Legal Team, you will provide enterprise-wide legal support across corporate governance, strategic transactions, construction, infrastructure and major projects, together with responsibility for disputes, enterprise risk, and ethics and compliance.

Well supported by internal legal functions within the Group and external counsel, you will work closely with the local Managing Director and senior leadership team to support the business. 

This is a unique opportunity to help shape the legal function as the business continues its significant growth trajectory. 

This role will suit an experienced legal generalist, ideally operating near or at General Counsel level, with strong expertise in construction, infrastructure and major projects, together with corporate advisory and M&A experience.

Exposure to disputes, employment and insurance matters will be advantageous, along with the commercial judgement and executive presence to advise senior leadership and the Board.

What we’re looking for

• A senior lawyer with at least 10 years PQE and a current New Zealand legal practising certificate 
• Strong senior-level corporate and commercial legal experience
• Excellent commercial contracting, drafting and negotiation skills
• Construction, infrastructure or major projects experience would be highly regarded
• Strong commercial judgement and a practical, solutions-focused approach
• Confidence working autonomously and advising senior stakeholders
• A collaborative style with excellent relationship-building skills
