About the role

Sainsbury Logan & Williams are looking for a Commercial Lawyer to join our team on a part-time basis for a 12-month maternity leave backfill. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the legal strategy and operations of our growing law firm, working from our modern offices in the heart of Napier, Hawke’s Bay.

What you’ll be doing

• Providing commercial and corporate legal advice to our diverse client base, which includes many of Hawke’s Bay’s most successful SME’s and large commercial enterprises
• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a range of commercial agreements, including contracts, leases, shareholder agreements and joint venture arrangements
• Supporting mergers, acquisitions and other business transactions
• Advising on regulatory compliance, governance and risk management issues
• Collaborating with partners and other lawyers to deliver high-quality, pragmatic legal services

What we’re looking for

• Post-qualification experience as a commercial/corporate lawyer with experience in banking and finance, corporate commercial or commercial advisory
• Expertise in a commercial law discipline, including contract law, company law, or property finance
• Commercial acumen and the ability to provide practical, solution-oriented advice to clients
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal matters in plain English
• A collaborative and flexible approach, with the capacity to work well as part of a team and independently
