June 28, 2004 – LAWFUEL – Prosecutors are struggling to make their case against Scott Peterson. Last week a juror was dismissed after admitting he discussed media coverage of the trial with his girlfriend and lashed prosecutors for “not showing anything” to prove Peterson’s guilt in the murder of his wife. “I really wanted to ask the
others, ‘Are you as confused as I am?’ “former juror Justin Falconer told
Newsweek.

Falconer was one of the jurors the defense team dubbed the “three
amigos” most likely to acquit; the other two remain on the panel. Prosecutors
were also stunned when a key witness, a Modesto police detective, admitted he
deliberately removed info from a police report indicating that Laci Peterson
visited her husband’s boat warehouse on the day they say she was murdered.
Aside from discrediting the police, the admission could explain why a strand
of Laci’s hair was recovered from Peterson’s boat. And Newsweek has learned
that Peterson told those close to him that he took tranquilizers in the days
after Laci’s disappearance — a detail the defense may use to explain his
contradictory statements and often strange demeanor.
