Kilpatrick Stockton Partner Neal Sweeney Appointed to the Advisory Board of the Chastain Park Conservancy

ATLANTA (March 24) -LAWFUEL – Kilpatrick Stockton announced today that Partner Neal Sweeney has been appointed to serve on the Advisory Board of the Chastain Park Conservancy. Chastain Park is the largest park in the City of Atlanta and one of the region’s most popular concert venues. The Chastain Park Conservancy was formed in 2003 to restore, enhance, maintain and preserve the 286 acre park that includes a golf course, athletic fields for baseball, softball and football, tennis courts, a pool, a horse park, and a gym as well as the amphitheatre.

As a member of the organization’s Advisory Board, Mr. Sweeney will provide guidance and insight as the Conservancy continues its many new initiatives. The Conservancy already has completed many projects aimed at making the park safer, cleaner and greener. The Mayor and City Council recently approved the Conservancy’s Master Plan that includes 12 additional acres of parkland, wider sidewalks, replacing the tennis center, a new gym and parking deck, and a new aquatic center building. Major portions of the $36 million plan could take eight to 10 years to complete.
Mr. Sweeney is a partner in the firm’s Construction & Infrastructure Projects Group. For almost twenty-five years, he has practiced exclusively in the area of construction law and public contracts, with further concentration in large public works projects. Some of his major cases involved Tren Urbano – San Juan, Puerto Rico’s commuter rail system, a high-rise hospital in Los Angeles impacted by the Northridge Earthquake, one of the largest earth and rock filled dams in the United States, various projects at a Trident Nuclear Submarine base, and the Miami Performing Arts Center.
He has also edited seventeen books on construction law, including the annual Construction Law Update (Aspen) which he has edited since 1992, and Common Sense Contracting (Wiley, 1997). Mr. Sweeney regularly contributes articles to periodicals including Development, Constructor, the ASCE Management Journal and Water Environment and Technology magazines. He is a regular lecturer on construction law for a variety of trade and bar organizations and educational institutions.
Mr. Sweeney currently serves as President of the Southeast Chapter of the Design-Build Institute of America and has lectured nationally for DBIA on design-build contracts and risks for almost 10 years.
