ATLANTA (December 1) LAWFUEL — Kilpatrick Stockton announced today that it was recognized as the top Intellectual Property (IP) Firm, and also as the top Trademark Firm, for 2008 in North America at the recent 2008 World Leaders International IP Awards program.
The awards submissions were based on dozens of courtroom victories and outstanding results achieved for clients in 2007 and 2008, including:
• obtaining the largest jury verdict ever in a trademark case for adidas,
• a complete defense verdict for Cox in a $1 billion patent infringement case brought by Verizon
• a substantial monetary judgment in favor of Chrysler and Mercedes in defense of a case brought by a patent troll,
• representation of Google in the landmark book publishing copyright litigation,
• defeating a preliminary injunction threatening the launch of the television portal Hulu.com,
• obtaining a preliminary injunction for Zino Davidoff in a case presenting novel counterfeiting issues,
• and major trial and appellate victories for Collegiate Licensing Company, Universal Furniture, Smith & Nephew, Harley-Davidson, Dr. Jan K. Voda and WMS Gaming in landmark IP cases.
The nominations also cited extensive and successful counseling and portfolio management for leading global IP companies.
Over 200 people representing 36 firms from across the globe were in attendance at the awards ceremony held in London’s Madame Tussauds, which was hosted by Adrian Finighan, CNN International Anchor and Correspondent. Nominations were received from around the world to determine the night’s 20 award winners. The awards were sponsored by the publishers of Trademark World, Patent World, and Copyright World magazines and were given to those firms and individuals who judged by their peers contributed the most to the standing of the IP profession.
The Firm received the North America Law Firm of the Year for IP Award as well as the Excellence in Trademark Practice/Litigation Award. In the trademark category, the editorial board decided that the Firm’s successes were so substantial that it withdrew the category from voting and made the decision itself. Kilpatrick Stockton’s Intellectual Property partners Bill Brewster, Jamie Greene and Charlie Henn accepted the awards on behalf of the firm.
