Latham & Watkins, the second-largest law firm in the world by revenue and a top member of LawFuel’s Prestige Law Firm List has recently promoted 23 counsel to partnership, an increase from last year’s cohort of 17.

The announcement from the firm comes after the firm promoted a record-tying 44 associates to partnership in January.

Out of the 23 promotions, six women were included, accounting for 26 percent of the total. This is slightly less than last year, where seven out of the 17 counsel promotions were women, making up 41 percent.

The firm has engaged in a strong growth strategy in both the UK and US, as well as expanding its divisions across the entire firm.

Most of the promotions were given to lawyers based in the firm’s US offices. Washington DC and New York had the highest number of new partners, with six and five respectively, followed by Los Angeles with three, and Chicago with two. In San Francisco, Betty Pang’s healthcare regulatory practice saw her become a partner in the healthcare and life sciences team.

While London gained 10 new partners in Latham’s associate promotions earlier this year, it did not feature in the latest round. Instead, a counsel apiece was made up in Madrid, Milan, and Munich. In Germany, Ulf Kieker’s promotion in the transactional tax practice follows the firm’s strengthening of its real estate transaction capabilities with the hire of partner Carsten Loll from Linklaters last year.
