LAWFUEL – Law News Network – OH NO” – not “HO HO,” the more popular expression associated with the Christmas season – is much more commonly heard being uttered by residents of two downtown Los Angeles area apartment complexes. Unlike most other Angelenos, there is no joy during the holidays for residents of these buildings who profess to live in conditions ranging from mice, vermin and cockroach infestation, mold, no heat nor hot water, leaky roofs, inoperable toilets, defective fire escapes and smoke detectors among a myriad of other problems. On December 14, “slumlord” lawsuits will be filed against the ownership and management of the two residential complexes – one apartment building near Macarthur Park west of downtown Los Angeles and a complex of nine apartment buildings on one lot in South Los Angeles – for breach of warranty habitability (unfit place to live), negligence and infliction of emotional distress.

According to Attorney Eric E. Castelblanco, the lawsuits are part of an ongoing campaign to clean up Los Angeles in order to protect the health and welfare of low income families as well as to crack down on and hold accountable the “predators” who force them to live in such an intolerable environment. At 10:30 a.m. on December 14, immediately following the filing of the lawsuits, a News Conference will be held at one of the decaying buildings at 406 S. Rampart Blvd. At the conference, residents will air their grievances and attorneys will provide information on the lawsuits. Pertinent details are as follows:

WHEN: Thursday, December 14, at 10:30 a.m.

WHERE: In front of apartment building at 406 S. Rampart Blvd.,
Los Angeles (Between Lafayette and Macarthur Parks.)

WHO: Participating in the News Conference will be:

— ERIC E. CASTELBLANCO – Plaintiffs’ Attorney
— REILLY ATKINSON – Plaintiffs’ Attorney (co-counsel)
— RESIDENTS (PLAINTIFFS) of the apartment building.

VISUALS: The news conference will be held at one of the two
decaying buildings where evidence will be on display of
the rodent infestation, faulty systems, broken equipment
and deteriorating structure which is common in the
apartments as well as throughout the common areas of the
building.
