LAWFUEL – Legal Newswire – A governing member of notorious paedophile network the Paedophile Internet Exchange (PIE) has today (13.8.07) been sentenced to an indeterminate prison sentence.

David Arthur Joy (12/8/41 – 66 years), from Great Central Road, Loughborough, was arrested on 24.1.06 by detectives from the Met’s Paedophile Unit and officers from Leicestershire Constabulary as part of a co-ordinated raid on the remaining members of the now defunct PIE.

Searches of his one bedroom flat proved exceedingly challenging as a result of the huge amount of rubbish and stored newspaper materials inside. It took eight days to clear the flat, with officers suffering fleabites during the process. At the end of the searches indecent photos of children were found hidden amongst the pages of books and in files, appearing to result from home photographic printing.

Forensic examination of two seized computers and a huge quantity of storage disks found 947 stored indecent images of children, including those of the most serious nature (level 5) that contained scenes of sadism. Printed images and hardcore magazines found brought the total indecent images discovered to 1,129.

“No one involved in the search of Joy’s flat escaped without bites and stings and a lasting memory of what will be quite possibly the most unpleasant search of their careers, ” said DC Richard Morgan from the Met’s Paedophile Unit. “It is a testament to the dedication of the officers involved that we found what we did.”

PIE was an international organisation formed in 1974 consisting of like-minded people who all held a common belief that sex between children as young as four years old and adults should be legitimised. Joy was responsible for campaigning for the legal age of consent to be lowered and has appeared in the media promoting these views. Joy’s conviction is the last piece of the jigsaw, with all the leading PIE associates now serving prison sentences.

The officer in charge of the investigation, DC Richard Morgan, said:
“David Joy is an educated, intelligent man who, along with his fellow PIE associates, holds an unwavering and lifelong held belief that he should be able to have sex with children. He has backed this up in the past with constructive argument, and in my opinion, represents an ongoing danger to children. As long as he is off the streets, Loughborough is a safer place.

“I personally found him quite chilling, as he cannot see anything wrong with his beliefs. It was also clear that he was still building his collection of child abuse photographs almost to the point when we broke through his front door on the morning of his arrest.”

DC Morgan added, “David Joy is a lifelong offender who has lived in various parts of the country. If anyone has any information regarding him, I would urge them to speak to their local police.”

On 30.4.07 Joy pleaded guilty and has today (13.8.07) been sentenced to an indeterminate sentence at Leicestershire Crown Court. For parole purposes the judge sentenced him to:

Two years imprisonment for seven sample counts of possession of indecent images of a child contrary to section 160(1) and 2A of the Criminal Justice Act 1988, to be served concurrently with;

Three years imprisonment for four sample counts of making an indecent image of a child contrary to section 1(1)(a) of the Protection of Children Act 1978.
