LAWFUEL – Middle East Law News – Holman Fenwick & Willan’s (HFW) Dubai office has recruited a Partner, Daniel Chung and two Assistants, Simon Cartwright and Sian Knight.
Daniel Chung is an experienced commercial lawyer with particular expertise in banking, finance and projects, on an international basis. After training with Clifford Chance, Daniel stayed with the firm, first in London followed by Tokyo, Hong Kong and Shanghai. He subsequently moved to White & Case in their Singapore office. Daniel is dual qualified in England & Wales and Hong Kong. Along the way he studied Chinese to add to his skill portfolio. Daniel joins HFW’s Commercial Group.
Simon Cartwright is another dual qualified lawyer, this time in New Zealand and England & Wales. His expertise is shipping law and he left his native New Zealand to join an English shipping specialist practice in 2000. Simon is experienced in both ‘dry’ and ‘wet’ shipping and joins HFW’s Shipping & Transport Group. Additional skills he brings to HFW are fluency in Japanese.
Sian Knight has recently completed her training with HFW. Her last training seat was in the Dubai office and its success has resulted in her staying in Dubai for the present. Sian graduated in 1996 and she joined DHL as a management trainee, where she completed their management training scheme, becoming a Commercial Logistics Analyst. In 2002 she left to study law and joined HFW, as a trainee, in September 2004. Sian is fluent in French and Italian.
Since HFW took over Hill Taylor Dickinson’s Dubai office, with its full compliment of personnel, in February 2006, the office has experienced an impressive increase in work. Several HFW lawyers have been seconded to Dubai to assist. These permanent appointments, will enable the Dubai team to offer more services to clients and to take advantage of opportunities in the local and regional markets where the office operates.
Ed Newitt, who heads the Dubai office is delighted, ‘we have been looking for the right lawyers for a few months. It is not only finding people with the right skills and levels of expertise to assist and add value to our clients’ commercial aims, but one also has to ensure that they have the right personality to get on with our multicultural client base and the existing multinational team of lawyers in the office.
