LAWFUEL – Press Release Service – To coincide with National Pro Bono Week, (5-9 June) and National Volunteer’s Week (1-7 June), Linklaters will hold a month-long programme of events, taking place throughout June, to encourage as many people within the firm to step forward and volunteer.
It is the second year that the firm has run this month-long community investment programme. It follows the success of a similar programme held in June last year. Under the firm’s ‘Time to Volunteer’ scheme, launched in 2004, everyone in the London office is allowed an extra “day off” a year to take part in community investment activities.
Activities on offer in London include:
team volunteering challenges with community partners in Hackney and Tower Hamlets, including: helping homeless people at Whitechapel Mission; helping improve facilities at Hackney City Farm; painting / gardening at St John the Baptist School;
helping students in Newham improve their job-seeking skills, in conjunction with Newham Education Business Partnership;
lunchtime presentations from CRISIS, JUSTICE, National Literacy Trust, Project Shoreditch and Opportunity International about their work and volunteering programmes, as well as a presentation on how to become a school governor.
In addition to these activities, the firm is also hosting – for the third year running – a pro bono seminar for its community partners (such as the Mary Ward Legal Centre, Toynbee Hall and the Shoreditch Trust) and small businesses/community groups in Hackney. The seminar, which won recognition from both the Solicitors Pro Bono Group and the Young Solicitors Group when it was first launched, is to be held on Thursday 8 June. It will explore a range of legal issues that affect charities and small businesses.
The seminar is designed to be practical and informative, providing all Linklaters’ pro bono clients with up-to-date legal advice from specialists in their field, as well showing our community partners the kind of support that Linklaters can offer.
