LAWFUEL – The Legal Newswire – More than a week before a new law further regulating abortion clinics in Missouri would go into effect, Planned Parenthood has filed a federal lawsuit to halt enforcement of it.

The suit, filed today, states that if an injunction is not granted, abortion services provided by Planned Parenthood in Kansas City and Columbia would have to be shut down. That would force patients to travel to the St. Louis area to receive services, according to the suit.

The law says abortion clinics must meet standards required of ambulatory surgical centers, such as staff training, sterilization and the design of operating and recovery rooms, if they perform at least five abortions monthly or any second- or third-trimester abortions. The law is scheduled to take effect Aug. 28.
