Lawfuel the New Zealand legal jobs site has a number of jobs listed for the newly expanded Public Defence Service, which can be seen at Public Defence Jobs and which reflect the expansion of the PDS from Auckland (and also within Auckland this month) as well as into Hamilton, Porirua, Wellington and Christchurch.
The expansion of the Public Defence Service follows a revamp of the Legal Aid system following the highly critical Margaret Bazley report into the service, although the programme itself was set up in 2004 in Auckland as a pilot programme.
The PDS currently seeks up to 20 lawyers with criminal law, administrative and litigation interests and experience, including intermediate and senior lawyers who are invited to work for the new service.
