LOS ANGELES, September 21 LAWFUEL – Best law news, attorney, legal, law firm news, legal research – Piper Rudnick partner Michael Meyer has again been named to the Daily Journal Extra’s list of the 100 most influential lawyers in California.
The list is compiled by the Daily Journal Extra in a lengthy process that includes asking hundreds of lawyers to name the attorneys they consider the most influential in California. This is the seventh annual Top 100 list the Daily Journal Extra has created.
“Mike is a remarkable attorney of vast knowledge and achievements, and his appearance on the Daily Journal Extra’s list doesn’t surprise us in the least,” said Jeffrey Rosenfeld, managing partner of Piper Rudnick’s Century City office. “His experience is part of Piper Rudnick’s philosophy of top-flight client service.”
Richard Mendelson, a partner in Piper Rudnick’s downtown Los Angeles office, added, “Mike definitely deserves this honor, and we all already regard him as among the very best. We admire him not just for his knowledge of the law but for the way he practices, with intelligence and generosity.”
Earlier this year, Piper Rudnick was named the number one firm for real estate in the United States by the leading British legal publisher Practical Law Company. Almost simultaneously, the new third edition of The International Who’s Who of Real Estate Lawyers dubbed Piper Rudnick “the number one firm in the world for real estate legal expertise.”
The firm has been growing rapidly in California in the last three years. It opened its first California office, in Century City, in 2001; a San Francisco office in January 2004; and an office in downtown Los Angeles in June 2004. Mr. Meyer joined the firm this year.
Mr. Meyer has developed a national reputation as one of the preeminent leasing attorneys in the United States. He regularly represents many of this country’s leading financial institutions, accounting firms, and law firms, as well as major corporations, in connection with major lease transactions throughout the country. He has also represented several governments in the leases for their consulates.
He is considered one of the country’s leading authorities on the establishment of fair market rental rates pursuant to arbitrations; the assignment and subleasing provision; and the inter-relationships between the tenant improvement agreement and the rent commencement date.
Mr. Meyer is a member of the board of directors of the Building Owners and Managers Association in Los Angeles. He has served as judge pro tem in the Los Angeles Municipal Courts and presently serves as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association. He is extensively involved in civic and pro bono work. His recent pro bono activities include representing the Los Angeles County Bar Association on its lease and United Way on its headquarters lease in downtown Los Angeles. He is the managing partner of Piper Rudnick’s downtown Los Angeles office.
In 2002, the Los Angeles Business Journal called Mr. Meyer one of the 25 most powerful lawyers in California, and he was named the Corporate Real Estate Network’s Man of the Year. He is cited in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Business Lawyers (2004), which ranked him in the first tier of real estate lawyers in California and was the only real estate lawyer named to the list of Southern California’s Top Ten Superlawyers, in a poll published in Los Angeles magazine.
The list of the top 100 most influential lawyers in California will appear in the September 27, 2004, issue of the Daily Journal Extra.
