Los Angeles—Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that Miriam Beezy joined the firm as a partner in the Intellectual Property Department and leader of the national Trademark & Copyright Practice Group.
“The addition of Miriam as head of our Trademark & Copyright Practice Group is the most recent step of our strategic growth plan to expand the firm’s intellectual property practice nationally,” said Foley & Lardner Intellectual Property Chair Richard Florsheim. “As a recognized leader in intellectual property law, it’s only natural for the firm to bring on a recognized leader in trademark law such as Miriam to complement our existing strengths in the fields of patent law and patent litigation.”
Before joining Foley & Lardner, Beezy was chair of the Intellectual Property and Technology Department at Greenberg Glusker in Los Angeles. There she counseled entertainment, consumer products, technology and internet commerce companies and developed global trademark portfolios for clients in the United States and abroad. She cultivated a prominent entertainment industry client list that included a popular Australian children’s musical entertainment group, a leading U.S. newspaper columnist and a producer of well-known television shows.
Prior to that position Beezy was Chief Trademark Counsel at Disney, where she managed Disney’s worldwide trademark portfolio, including obtaining, licensing and enforcing Disney’s trademark rights around the world. She supervised the wide variety of intellectual property issues relating to Disney’s consumer products, motion pictures, television, musicals, video, theme parks, sports teams, restaurants, cruise lines, apparel, toys, collectibles and retail stores. She also handled the intellectual property issues associated with Disney’s purchase of the baseball team now known as the Anaheim Angels.
Foley & Lardner was recently recognized by industry publication IP Law & Business for providing intellectual property counsel to more of the largest global corporations than any other law firm. In addition, in 2003 Foley & Lardner was the only law firm in the United States to be ranked in the top 10 of both patent prosecution and patent litigation firms by two IP industry publications.
