Mallard Private Punch-Up Prosecution Action Could Be Farce Or Serious

LAWFUEL – The NZ Law News & Jobs Wire – The private prosecution taken against MP Trevor Mallard could be a ‘farce’ or could turn very serious for the parliamentarian who punched a fellow MP, according to lawyers.

The summons, issued by Wellington accountant Graeme McCready, was filed yesterday and is going to be served in the next few days following District Court Judge Bruce Davidson issuing the proceeding.

Mallard is due for his appearance on December 3.

As a result Mallard lost his front bench position as Sports Minister and dropped to 10 in the Labour rankings but remains in Cabinet with several other portfolios.

The summons is being sent to Mallard by registered mail on Wednesday by Maori Legal Services on McCready’s behalf.
