(May 10, 2005, New York City) – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Noted advertising and marketing attorney David H. Carlin has re-connected with his high-profile colleague Douglas J. Wood by joining the New York City-based Advertising and Marketing Law Group of Reed Smith LLP as a partner, effective immediately.

The powerful duo worked together at Hall Dickler some 20 years ago, before Mr. Carlin was recruited to found and build the marketing and advertising practice of Loeb & Loeb, eventually rising to serve as Loeb & Loeb’s managing partner and co-chair. Mr. Wood led Hall Dickler’s combination with Reed Smith last February.

“I can think of no one I would rather have join us than David,” said Mr. Wood. “His arrival positions Reed Smith as the top marketing and advertising practice in the nation. With David aboard, Reed Smith will expand our services to existing clients, as well as extend our client base, and continue to add additional attorneys to the practice group. The beauty of our being within a larger firm context is that we are capable of not only providing clients with unrivaled advertising and marketing representation, but also linking them to Reed Smith’s other practice groups for any other legal services they require. ”

Mr. Carlin has broad experience in marketing, advertising and corporate law, including talent agreements, advertising copy and marketing strategy; self-regulation and, in particular proceedings before the National Advertising Division and the National Advertising Review Board, promotions; negotiations with television networks, the FTC, Attorneys General and other regulators concerning advertising matters; and negotiation of agreements, corporate transactions, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, licensing and corporate counseling. He has a particular practice interest and expertise in matters related to broadcasting, union matters, and e-commerce. His clients include advertisers, advertising agencies, and direct marketing, promotion, and media and marketing companies.

“I am delighted at the opportunity to work with Doug again and look forward to jointly increasing the extent and impact of Reed Smith’s already premiere practice,” said Mr. Carlin. “I expect to play a key role in handling existing client matters, developing new opportunities, and recruiting and mentoring new associates.”

A 1967 graduate of New York University School of Law, Mr. Carlin is a frequent lecturer on advertising topics. He is an adjunct professor in the Mercy College Graduate Program in Direct Marketing and has lectured at The New School and trade groups, including the American Association of Advertising Agencies, the Association of National Advertisers, Association of Corporate Counsel and the American Bar Association Antitrust Institute. He is a former columnist for Marketing Communications Magazine.

Mr. Carlin has been a member of the New York State Bar since 1967. He was admitted to the United States District Court for the Southern District in 1968.
