Mayer Brown promotes 10 to counsel worldwide

24 November, 2014 – Mayer Brown, a leading global law firm, announced the promotion of 10 of its lawyers worldwide to counsel. The appointments are effective January 1, 2015.

“Each of these outstanding lawyers demonstrates the superior work ethic, legal skills and dedication to world-class client service that are at the heart of our business,” said Mayer Brown Chairman Paul Theiss. “We are pleased to recognize through these promotions their many contributions to our clients and the firm.”

The new counsel are:

Jeromy S. Cannon, Government & Global Trade, Chicago
Mr. Cannon practices in the areas of state and local government law and public finance, representing public and private sector clients in a diverse assortment of transactional, legislative and regulatory matters. He represents clients in tax-exempt public finance transactions as bond counsel, underwriters’ counsel, issuer’s counsel, conduit borrower’s counsel and credit enhancer’s counsel. He also advises governmental parties and private party sponsors in connection with infrastructure-related public-private partnerships.

Mark C. Dempsey, Banking & Finance, Chicago
Mr. Dempsey represents private equity funds and REITS in subscription loan and other secured and unsecured real estate and energy financings. He represents and counsels commercial lending institutions, insurance companies, funds and borrowers in negotiating and documenting syndicated and leveraged finance transactions, bridge loans, bilateral loans and credit facilities, secured and unsecured lending agreements, debt restructurings and other financing transactions. He also advises commercial banking clients on international financing transactions.

Elodie Deschamps, Tax Transactions & Consulting, Paris
Ms. Deschamps advises private equity clients and multinational groups on the tax aspects of their acquisitions, mergers and reorganizations. She assists clients on all aspects of these transactions, from tax due diligence to structuring work, including financing matters. She also assists corporate groups in the day-to-day management of their tax affairs and in the reduction of their global effective tax rate (French and international tax planning, etc.) and their exceptional operations (debt refinancing, build-up, etc.).

Gavin W.H. Guo, Corporate & Securities, Shanghai
Mr. Guo specializes in mergers and acquisitions and foreign direct investments in China. He has extensive experience in representing multinational companies in major cross-border transactions and advising them on investments in a wide range of sectors, including auto, energy and agriculture. He has assisted many multinational clients in forming joint ventures in China and has advised them on regulatory matters such as foreign exchange control. He also advises Chinese clients on acquisitions outside China.

Jonathan H. Kim, Intellectual Property, Chicago
Mr. Kim focuses on patent management, counseling and litigation involving pharmaceutical drug products. He has assisted in Hatch-Waxman Act patent litigation and investigations involving the Federal Trade Commission. He also advises on patent portfolio matters and on opinions regarding trademark procurement and protection, and he conducts due diligence involving intellectual property asset purchase and licensing agreements. He holds a PhD in biochemistry and previously worked in the medical device industry.

Lindsay M. O’Neil, Banking & Finance, Chicago
Ms. O’Neil represents issuers, borrowers, underwriters, domestic and international banks and asset-backed commercial paper conduits in a variety of securitization and other structured finance transactions in both the public and private markets. She has experience with a wide variety of asset classes, including auto and equipment loans and leases, trade receivables, credit card receivables and life settlements. In addition, she advises clients in connection with various regulatory developments.

J. Nichola Padget, Litigation & Dispute Resolution, London
Ms. Padget focuses on real estate litigation. She has experience in all aspects of contentious commercial landlord and tenant matters, including advising on vacant possession strategies, lease renewal litigation, service charge and dilapidations disputes, breaches of covenant, forfeiture and break options. She also acts in connection with both personal and commercial property-related insolvency proceedings and advises on a wide range of real property matters.

Helen Parrott, Employment & Benefits, London
Ms. Parrott advises trustees and employers on all aspects of pensions law including documentation, administration, disputes and funding. She also advises trustees on the employer’s covenant in relation to corporate activity and insolvency, with particular experience of scheme mergers, as well as investment issues including advice for trustees on establishing a common investment fund.

Camille Potier, Litigation & Dispute Resolution, Paris
Ms. Potier focuses on defending companies and managers facing white-collar crime charges. She also advises clients on compliance matters, in particular with respect to their anti-corruption obligations and anti-money laundering.

Eugene Y.C. Wong, Corporate & Securities, Hong Kong
Mr. Wong is experienced in a wide range of corporate and commercial matters, including domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, private equity investments, venture capital work and various commercial work. He advises local and international blue chip corporations and private equity houses.
