Sixty Nine percent of respondents said yes. Eight percent said ‘no’ and twenty per cent said he should make a decision once the report of Judicial COnduct Commissioner Sir David Gascoigne was released, which recommended that a judicial conduct panel be used to inquire into Justice Wilson’s conduct.

Justice Wilson was at the centre of a judicial probity saga that has embarrassed New Zealand’s new, Supreme Court following his failure to recuse himself from a conflict of interest situation involving his business interests being intertwined with those of a senior barrister appearing before him.

Justice Wilson has stood down from sitting on the Supreme Court since the recommendation went to the Attorney General, Christopher Finlayson. Mr Finlayson has himself stood aside from dealing with the matters, as a former partner of Justice Wilson’s and a friend.
