Raj Shah, a partner in DLA Piper’s Litigation practice, has been named to The National Law Journal’s “Chicago’s 40 Under 40” list. The honor recognizes top young talent in Chicago that will play a leading role in the legal community for many years to come. Shah is profiled in a July 1 special report.
The National Law Journal recognized Shah for successfully representing Avis and Enterprise in a high-profile dispute against the City of Chicago over the bidding process for rental car facilities at O’Hare International Airport.
The profile also praises Shah for his devotion to pro bono work, citing his involvement in a trial team that successfully represented a class of past and present inmates of Tamms Correctional Center, a Supermax prison in Illinois, in their constitutional challenge of the Illinois Department of Corrections’ procedures for transferring prisoners to Tamms.
Shah serves as lead counsel in complex commercial disputes for Fortune 500 and large privately held health care and pharmaceutical companies, financial service institutions, airlines and rental car companies, among many others. He handles all nature of commercial contract disputes, post-closing contract matters, accounting and valuation disputes, fraud and corporate governance disputes, class action and consumer protection litigation, intellectual property matters, and product liability claims. He has litigated and tried cases in federal and state courts and in arbitrations across the country.
Shah also serves as US co-head of DLA Piper’s India Initiative and has developed a practice representing Indian companies. In 2005, Shah was awarded the prestigious international Pride of India Gold Award by the Non-Resident Indian Institute. The 16 recipients of the Pride of India Gold Award were selected from a field of hundreds of Indians from across the globe. Shah, one of the youngest honorees and the only attorney, joined other winners which included CEOs, entrepreneurs, scientists and doctors. Shah previously was awarded the Illinois State Bar Association’s “Young Lawyer of the Year.”
Shah sits on the Firm’s Policy Committee, Diversity and Inclusion Committee and formerly on its Hiring and Associate Compensation Committee. He serves on the Board of the Chicago Appleseed Fund for Justice and the Institute for Inclusion in the Legal Profession.
