NEW YORK, August 18, 2004 Legal news, law news, law firm news & research at LAWFUEL-Irwin H. Warren, a partner of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, one of the world’s leading law firms, and co-head of the firm’s Business and Securities Litigation practice, has been elected to the Council of the Section of Litigation of the American Bar Association. Warren was elected to a three-year term, beginning September 2004.

Warren is a recognized authority on class action and derivative suits, securities law, RICO and other complex litigation, as well as corporate governance and legal and professional ethics. His extensive trial and appellate experience has included representation of major corporations such as Arthur Andersen, Westinghouse, McGraw-Hill, Enron and TWA. He frequently counsels boards of directors on a wide range of corporate governance issues.

The Section of Litigation of the American Bar Association consists of approximately 74,000 members. The Section was founded in 1973 to further the American system of justice and equal justice for all people and provide members the resources to be effective and ethical advocates for their clients. The Council is responsible for setting Section policy on issues critical to the legal profession, such as the Securities and Exchange Commission’s proposed “noisy withdrawal” rules under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, tort reform and proposed changes to the Model Rules of Professional Conduct. Only six individuals are elected each year to serve three-year terms on the Council of the Section.

Warren previously has served as Chair of numerous Section of Litigation bodies, including its Class Action and Derivative Suits Committee, Securities Litigation Committee, Committee on Ethics and Professionalism, and the Task Force on the Independent Lawyer. Most recently, he has been a member of its Federal Practice Task Force.
