NEW YORK, Jan. 22 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Andrew Weissmann, who directed the government’s Enron Task Force and led the prosecutions of some of the most high-profile prosecutions of corporate malfeasance in recent history, will
join the New York office of Jenner & Block as a partner, the firm announced
today.

Mr. Weissmann will focus on internal corporate compliance and
investigations, including the representation before the Department of Justice,
the Securities and Exchange Commission and state and local authorities. In
addition to spearheading national criminal trials while at the Enron Task
Force, Mr. Weissmann has been widely credited for formulating innovative
corporate compliance agreements while at the Department of Justice, which have
become the national model for resolutions of corporate criminal liability
post-Enron. Mr. Weissmann has lectured frequently to Boards, industry
associations and elsewhere on compliance and other issues.

“As Jenner & Block expands our practice in New York, we are thrilled to
have a seasoned trial lawyer of Andrew’s caliber and national prominence
anchoring our team,” said Ronald L. Marmer, co-chair of the Securities
Litigation Practice at Jenner & Block. “His skillful prosecution of some of
the most highly complex cases in the DOJ’s history gives him a rare insider’s
perspective and experience that will enhance our representation of our clients
in high-stakes criminal and regulatory litigation.”

“Jenner & Block’s insistence on excellence, as well as its absolute
integrity and demonstrated commitment to public service, made it a natural and
exciting choice,” said Mr. Weissmann.

At the Enron Task Force Mr. Weissmann led a team of federal prosecutors,
F.B.I. and I.R.S. agents in investigating the largest, most complex corporate
fraud in history. Mr. Weissmann closely coordinated his team’s efforts with
the leadership of the SEC’s Enforcement Division, and interacted with
Congress, the Bankruptcy Examiner, Enron’s outside internal investigators,
numerous federal and state agencies and the national media.

To date, the Task Force he led has indicted over 30 individuals in
connection with the Enron scandal, including Enron’s former chairman Kenneth
Lay and chief executive officer Jeffrey Skilling. Mr. Weissmann personally
spearheaded the prosecutions and convictions of Andrew Fastow (Chief Financial
Officer), Richard Causey (Chief Accounting Officer), Ben Glisan (treasurer);
and five Merrill Lynch and Enron executives involved in manipulating Enron’s
earnings, among others. Mr. Weissmann also served as the lead trial attorney
on U.S. v. Arthur Andersen, which was later overturned based on an erroneous
jury instruction.

Over the course of his distinguished 15-year career with the U.S.
Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of New York, Mr. Weissmann served as chief
of the Criminal Division from 2000-2003, and conducted more than 25 trials,
including complex stock fraud cases and prosecutions of prominent members of
the Genovese, Gambino and Colombo organized crime families. He served as a
lead attorney in the successful and tenacious prosecution of Vincent Gigante,
the boss of the Genovese family, who had feigned mental illness for years.

Upon stepping down from the Task Force in August of 2005, Mr. Weissmann
was chosen by Robert S. Mueller, III, the Director of the F.B.I., to be his
Special Counsel. Mr. Weissmann leaves that position to return to private
practice in New York, his home town.

A graduate of Princeton University and the recipient of a Fulbright
Fellowship, Mr. Weissmann holds his J.D. from Columbia Law School, where he
served on the Law Review. After clerking for the Honorable Eugene H.
Nickerson, Mr. Weissmann began his legal career with Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen &
Hamilton in New York.

“Andrew is exactly what Jenner & Block is all about — first rate trial
skills, innovative and tenacious advocacy, impeccable integrity, and a
commitment to public service,” said Gregory S. Gallopoulos, the firm’s
Managing Partner. Mr. Weissmann’s partnership at Jenner & Block will
officially take effect in March.
