NEW YORK, July 8, 2004 – LAWFUEL – Joseph S. Kaplan, partner with McGuireWoods LLP, received a lifetime achievement recognition from the American Association of Exporters and Importers in honor of his outstanding service to the industry and the organization. Kaplan was the first to receive the Thomas Paine “Trade Warrior” recognition, presented by assistant secretary of Homeland Security, Stewart Verdery, at the AAEI annual meeting on June 14.
Kaplan has been an active member of the AAEI for more than 15 years, serving as de facto general counsel of the organization and testifying before Congress on behalf of the AAEI.
AAEI represents American businesses in support of fair and open trade among nations. Federal and statewide government agencies recognize AAEI’s expertise in international trade and customs matters. The association works with U.S. Customs to offer technical expertise on policy and regulations regarding global commerce issues.
