NEW YORK–LAWFUEL – Law News, Law Jobs –Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP, one of the world’s leading international law firms, announced that Jodi L. Avergun, the former Chief of Staff of the Drug Enforcement Administration, has joined the firm as Special Counsel in the Business Fraud group of the Litigation Department, resident in the Washington office.

At the Drug Enforcement Administration, Ms. Avergun was responsible for overseeing and formulating legislative, regulatory, policy, and strategic initiatives. From January 2002 to February 2005, she was Chief of the Narcotic and Dangerous Drug Section of the Criminal Division at the U.S. Department of Justice, where she specialized in international narcotics prosecutions as well as developed and implemented national policies related to narcotics enforcement, drug and chemical regulatory matters, and the telecommunications industry. Prior to 2002, she served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York for 12 years, ultimately heading the Long Island Branch Office where she oversaw and conducted money laundering and a variety of financial fraud investigations and prosecutions. Ms. Avergun received her B.A. from Brown University and her J.D., magna cum laude, from Brooklyn Law School, where she was an editor of the Brooklyn Law Review.
