New York, NY (May 16, 2005) – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Heller Ehrman LLP today announced the addition of Joseph Angland as a shareholder in the firm’s New York office. Mr. Angland joins Heller Ehrman from Dewey Ballantine LLP, where his practice included both antitrust litigation (civil and criminal) and counseling. He has represented clients in a variety of industries including the automobile, banking, communications, computer software, medical equipment, mortgage, petroleum, pharmaceutical and semiconductor industries. Mr. Angland is also active in the antitrust bar, both nationally and in New York, and will become the Chair of the Antitrust Section of the American Bar Association in 2006.

“With Joe joining right after the addition of leading M&A antitrust attorney Marc Schildkraut in Washington, D.C., our thriving East Coast antitrust practice offers clients a robust complement of services, including regulatory advice and large, complex private litigation,” said Joseph T. McLaughlin, Office Managing Shareholder and Chairman of Heller Ehrman’s New York office. “Joe’s leadership in the antitrust bar and his reputation as a first-tier antitrust lawyer among in-house counsel at major corporations are immensely valuable to us as we continue building our New York office. By the end of the year we will have well over 100 attorneys in New York by adding litigation and business attorneys across a variety of practices.”

Mr. Angland earned his B.S. in Economics in 1972 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his J.D. from Harvard Law School. Upon graduation from law school, he joined Dewey Ballantine where he has practiced since 1976. During that time, Mr. Angland litigated many jury and non-jury cases before federal and state courts and handled a variety of administrative matters before the Federal Trade Commission. Among the many clients Mr. Angland has represented are DaimlerChrysler Corp., Sematech, and Novartis. In addition to his client practice, Mr. Angland is a prolific author. He was principal editor of the fourth edition of Antitrust Law Developments, the ABA’s multi-volume treatise on antitrust law.

“Heller Ehrman’s antitrust practice has an outstanding track record and reputation and I’m very excited about the opportunity to work alongside such leading antitrust attorneys as Steve Bomse and Marc Schildkraut,” noted Mr. Angland. “Heller Ehrman’s leading role in high profile antitrust matters in the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, such as the Visa/Wal-Mart Litigation, was certainly important in my decision to join Heller Ehrman and I’m looking forward to helping the firm build its antitrust practice both in New York and nationally,” he added.
