Nick Davidson QC and David Jones QC, chaired by Phil Shamy, this 1.5 hour webinar covers important aspects cross-examination including ethics, witness reliability and credibility, as well as preparing counsel for the exercise of cross-examination. They will help to demystify an art that can for many practitioners become quite daunting.

Hon. Nicholas (Nick) Davidson QC

Nicholas (Nick) began practice with Duncan Cotterill, in Christchurch before partnership with R A Young Hunter.

Nick established Clarendon Chambers with WGGA Young, in 1988 and Canterbury Chambers with D M Lester and R A Osborne in 2007. He took Silk in 1996 and was later appointed to the High Court before retiring in December 2018.

Nick is now an Associate Member of Bankside Chambers in Auckland, and Plymouth Chambers in Christchurch.

David PH Jones QC

David Jones commenced his legal career at Meredith Connell in 1982 as a prosecutor. He went to the independent bar in 1987 and has concentrated on criminal and civil litigation. David has been a member of the Crown prosecution panel since 1988 and was a member of the Serious Fraud Office prosecution panel for over 10 years. He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2005.

Phil Shamy

Phil Shamy was admitted in 1985 and worked in a number of commercial firms conducting civil litigation until joining the Crown Solicitors in Christchurch.  He was a partner there for over 20 years during which time he conducted numerous trials on behalf of the Crown before joining the independent bar in 2014.  Since then Phil has conducted litigation on behalf of numerous clients with a focus on criminal jury trials and appellate work at all levels.
