NZ Law Firm MinterEllisonRuddWatts Advises on Sports Betting Deal

MinterEllisonRuddWatts have advised in one of the world’s largest sports betting and gaming groups on a deal with New Zealand’s TAB horse betting organisation.

MinterEllisonRuddWatts is delighted to have advised Entain on its selection as the preferred partner to TAB NZ for a 25-year strategic arrangement.

Entain is one of the world’s largest sports betting and gaming groups operating in the online and retail sector and was selected as the preferred partner based on a wide range of criteria, including operational expertise, cultural alignment with TAB NZ and the commitment of Entain to uplifting TAB NZ’s harm minimisation and responsible gambling efforts.

Partnering with TAB NZ, Entain will be the only domestic provider of sports and racing betting and wagering in New Zealand.

John Conlan and Isaac Stewart co-led the deal team which included Senior Associate James Marriner, Senior Solicitor Ethan McAuliffe, and Solicitors Brayden Print, Meg Donnelly and Russell Busby. The team advised on all aspects of the transaction including undertaking due diligence and negotiating the transaction documents.

The strategic arrangement is subject to approval from the Minister for Racing, Kieran McAnulty.
