BALTIMORE, MD December 17, 2009 – LawFuel.com – Baltimore-based law firm Ober|Kaler announced today that six of its lawyers have been appointed to local nonprofit boards.
Frank C. Bonaventure, head of Ober|Kaler’s Financial Institutions practice, was elected to the Board of Directors of the Center Club for a one-year term. He joins the organization as it commences a $2.7 million renovation of its 15th floor main lobby and dining room located at 100 Light Street in downtown Baltimore. Mr. Bonaventure also serves on the Baltimore City Board of Municipal and Zoning Appeals. He is active in the American and Maryland State Bar Associations, as well as the Maryland Bankers Association. He is a former chairman of the commission of the Maryland State Lottery Agency. Mr. Bonaventure is a graduate of Howard Law School (J.D., 1980) and the University of Maryland (B.A., 1974). He resides in Roland Park.
Stuart M. Schabes, a principal in the firm’s Business & Tax Group, was elected to the Board of Directors of The Associated: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore. The Associated works to preserve and enhance Jewish life by addressing charitable, educational, religious, humanitarian, health, cultural and social service needs of the Jewish community locally, nationally, in Israel and throughout the world. Mr. Schabes will serve an open-ended term at The Associated. He also serves on the board of the Jewish Community Center, and is active in the American and Maryland State Bar Associations, as well as the National Air Transportation Association and the National Business Aircraft Association. Mr. Schabes is a graduate of Georgetown University (LL.M., 1986); Hofstra University (J.D., 1984); and Duquesne University (B.S., 1981). He resides in Pikesville.
Jonathan M. Holda, a principal in the firm’s Intellectual Property Group, was elected to the Board of Directors of the Baltimore Museum of Industry for a three-year term. The Museum was founded in 1977 and is dedicated to collecting, preserving and interpreting Baltimore’s industrial and technological heritage by presenting educational programs and exhibits that explore the stories of Maryland’s industries and the people who created and worked in them. Mr. Holda also serves on the boards of the International Game Developers Association, Maryland Lawyers for the Arts and Mother Seton House on Paca Street. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American and Howard County Bar Associations. Mr. Holda is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law (J.D., 2004) and Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (B.S., 1992). He is a resident of Howard County.
Kristen Cilento Carter, an associate in the firm’s Health Law Group, was elected to the Board of Directors for Movable Feast for a three-year term. Founded in 1989, Moveable Feast is the only meal delivery program for homebound People Living with AIDS in the Greater Baltimore area. The group also provides meals to dependent children and others residing with homebound people living with AIDS. Last year the program was expanded to include women undergoing treatment for breast cancer and their families. Ms. Carter is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association and Maryland State Bar Association. She is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law (J.D., 2006) and James Madison University (B.S., 2003), and a resident of Federal Hill.
Anwar L. Young, an associate in the firm’s Business & Tax Group, was elected to the Board of Directors of the Baltimore Area Association for Supportive Housing (ASH) and will serve
an open-ended term. ASH is a not-for-profit association of professionals who manage, own, operate or provide goods and services to the supportive housing community in the Baltimore Metropolitan region. Mr. Young also serves on the board of Holy Trinity Rehabilitation Center, Inc. He is active in the Baltimore City, Maryland State and Monumental City Bar Associations, as well as the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. He is a graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law (J.D., 2007); Morgan State University (M.B.A., 2004); and the Johns Hopkins University (B.S., 2001). Mr. Young resides in Reservoir Hill.
S. Scott Tate, an associate in Ober|Kaler’s Estates & Trusts Group, was elected to a two-year term on the Board of Directors of Friends of Patterson Park, a non-profit membership organization formed in 1998 to promote, protect and advocate for Patterson Park, the “Best Backyard in Baltimore.” Mr. Tate is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association and a graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law (LL.M., 2006 and J.D., 1999) and Arizona State University (B.S., 1985; B.S. 1986). He resides in Baltimore City.
Eric Radz of the firm’s Construction Group joins the Board of Directors of the Greater Baltimore Youth Orchestra for a one-year term. The organization’s mission is to provide high-quality orchestral training and performance opportunities for talented young musicians, to create an environment in which students learn from music professionals and from one another, and to foster a greater appreciation for classical music in the students and their audience. Mr. Radz will serve an open-ended term as board member. He is a member of the American and New York State Bar Associations, as well as the New York City Lawyer’s Association. He is a graduate of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law (J.D., 2001) and the University of Michigan (B.A., 1998). He resides in Reisterstown.
Christopher F. Lonegro, an associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property practice, was elected to a one-year term to the Board of Directors of Caroline Center. Founded in 1996, Caroline Center assists unemployed and underemployed women to acquire the discipline, knowledge and skills necessary to find work in a career with potential for growth and advancement. Mr. Lonegro is active in the American and Maryland State Bar Associations, as well as the American Intellectual Property Law Association. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law (J.D., 2005); the Johns Hopkins University (M.B.A., 2001); and Syracuse University (B.S., 1996). He resides in Crofton.
