Prestigious list recognizes most outstanding young lawyers statewide

(SAN DIEGO) February 21, 2005 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – The Daily Journal has named DLA Piper partner Jeff T. Baglio to its 2006 list of California’s top 20 lawyers under 40.

The newspaper recognized Baglio, a partner in the Corporate and Finance practice group, for his important work for key California-based clients and his involvement in the San Diego community.

“We are pleased that the Daily Journal honored Jeff with this listing, but we aren?t surprised,” said Michael S. Tracy, managing partner of the San Diego office. ?The bottom line about Jeff is that he gives excellent, business-savvy legal advice to significant clients who trust him with their most important business decisions. He is one of the California legal community?s great emerging assets.?

Among Baglio’s most significant deals in 2005 was the $400 million acquisition of Oslo, Norway-based Dynal Biotech by his client Invitrogen Corporation–one of the largest international M&A transactions in Southern California last year. It was also the first large, multi-office transaction that validated the recent mergers creating DLA Piper, the second largest law firm in the world.

Baglio was the lead lawyer on ten additional M&A transactions completed in 2005, including the public/public acquisition of BioSource International by Invitrogen Corporation. He served as the lead lawyer in over a dozen financing transactions last year alone, raising over $500 million in the public and venture capital financing markets.

San Diego Metropolitan magazine is another publication that has honored Baglio for his professional success and community involvement, naming him to its 2005 list of San Diegos 40 under 40.

In the San Diego community, Baglio played a major part in the highly successful effort to draw the 2008 US Open to Torrey Pines, a municipal-owned facility. This event is expected to generate an economic impact to the San Diego community in excess of $75 million, all driven and financed by the efforts of private individuals.

Baglio remains a large part of this community project, serving as director and general counsel of the 2008 US Open Committee. He also serves on the board of the Century Club of San Diego, an organization that donates in excess of $1 million a year to San Diego area charities.
