Experience and Speed Required in Specialized Emergency Matters – The US Law Firm Newswire Service –

(October 24, 2012, Philadelphia, PA) – Reed Smith LLP today launched its firmwide Emergency Relief & Injunction Team comprising nine members of the firm’s Commercial Litigation & Disputes Practice, all of whom have extensive experience prosecuting and defending litigation in emergency situations. The team will be headed by Wayne C. Stansfield, a Philadelphia-based Reed Smith Commercial Litigation partner.

“Clients who require or face emergency action, such as injunctions, need a specialized resource because of the unique nature of these types of matters and the speed at which they move,” said Mr. Stansfield. “Unless a lawyer handles emergency matters routinely, such situations can be daunting. Even experienced litigators without prior experience in emergency matters can be uncomfortable with them. In this specialized area, the law moves at such a tremendous speed there’s no room for error. That is why Reed Smith created this specialized team.”

In addition to Mr. Stansfield, the Emergency Relief & Injunction Team initially includes Doug Albritton in Chicago; Jesse Miller in San Francisco; Michael Garabed in Los Angeles; John McIntyre and Jayme Butcher in Pittsburgh; Brian Rostocki in Wilmington; Travis Sabalewski in Richmond, and David Kochman in New York.

Members of the Team have considerable experience in securing emergency relief, including situations requiring competitors or former employees to be enjoined from misappropriating trade secret information or competing unfairly; preventing tenants from holding over on leases; or obtaining injunctions to prevent damage to property.

Emergency Relief and Injunction Team members also have broad knowledge of and significant familiarity with prosecuting and defending emergency actions, such as those necessary to protect confidential and proprietary business information and customer relationships; those involving restrictive covenants such as non-competition and non-solicitation agreements; those involving pre-emptive remedies such as freezing orders, replevin actions and related proceedings; those involving the placement of interim or permanent receivers over a company or piece of property; and, those related to M&A transactions.

The Team will advise clients across the U.S. on emergency actions, from initial investigation to resolution. They will aggressively seek and defend emergency relief, whether in the form of a temporary restraining orders, preliminary injunctions or expedited discovery orders. They have previously provided similar services to clients across a diverse array of industries, including accounting, manufacturing, computer software and technology, health care, pharmaceutical, and medical products, financial services, insurance services, scientific products and others.
