September 14 , 2004 LAWFUEL – Best for law firm news, attorneys, legal research, law John Sare has joined Patterson, Belknap, Webb & Tyler LLP as a partner in the firm’s tax-exempt organizations practice. Mr. Sare, previously a partner at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP in New York, has extensive experience in the representation of private foundations, museums, colleges, trade associations, and other types of exempt organizations.

“John is a terrific complement to our practice, and we welcome the expertise and breadth of experience he brings,” said Rochelle Korman, the firm’s Managing Partner.

Derek Dorn, an associate who worked with Mr. Sare at Milbank Tweed, will join Mr. Sare at Patterson Belknap. The addition of Mr. Sare and Mr. Dorn brings to 13 the number of attorneys in the Patterson Belknap exempt organizations group, one of the largest in the country.

In addition to his work on behalf of nonprofit organizations, Mr. Sare continues his trusts and estates practice advising individuals and corporate fiduciaries on legal issues involving works of art, charitable giving, and estate planning.

Mr. Sare teaches the Seminar in Law and the Visual Arts at the Columbia University School of Law. He lectures frequently on tax-exempt organization, charitable giving, and art law topics. Currently, Mr. Sare is a member of the Government Relations Committee of the Nonprofit Coordinating Committee. In 2003, he was recognized for Outstanding Pro Bono Service by The Legal Aid Society of New York.

Earlier this year, Mr. Sare spoke at the annual meeting of the Association of Art Museum Directors and the annual ALI-ABA Conference on Legal Problems of Museum Administration on the subject of restricted gifts to art museums. He has served on the Committee on Non-Profit Organizations and the Committee on Art Law of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.

Mr. Sare is a Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude graduate of Southern Methodist University. He was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar at Columbia University School of Law, where he graduated in 1990.
