Singapore – LAWFUEL – First for law news – International law firm Clifford Chance has advised Air Asia Berhad on its recent RM717.4 million (US$189 million) IPO, with a listing in Kuala Lumpur and an international offering under Regulation 144A/Regulation S. This is the first IPO in Asia of a low-cost air carrier and was the largest retail tranche for a Malaysian IPO in 2004.

The Clifford Chance team advising Air Asia on the deal was led by Singapore-based capital markets partner Crawford Brickley, assisted by Joan Janssen (counsel) and Chris Holland, Deborah Ong, and Vijay Jeyaratnam (all associates in the Singapore office). Lawyers from other Clifford Chance offices also assisted on the deal – Ross Stoeterau in New York, and Amorada Asuanut and Lachlan Jackson in Bangkok.
