Singapore – LAWFUEL – Legal News Network – DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary (“DLA Piper”) today announced the appointment of Jeffery Tan, former Motorola Singapore President and Asia Pacific General Counsel. Tan, who was also the Assistant Secretary and the only non-US office personnel on the Motorola Inc US board, joins as a partner and will manage the corporate and technology practice in South East Asia.
Tan has over 15 years experience driving and executing major regional and multi-jurisdictional corporate transactions relating to infrastructure, corporate finance, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital and general corporate matters.
He joins DLA Piper following 12 years at Motorola, a leading US telecommunications and technology corporation, where as President he was based in the Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore and was responsible for overseeing all of Motorola’s businesses in the region. As Assistant Secretary and head of Motorola’s Asia Pacific law department Tan also had management responsibility for all legal support throughout Asia. Desmond Ong, DLA Piper’s Singapore Office Managing Partner, said: “As Singapore looks to a future increasingly marked by globalisation, the country is positioning itself as the region’s financial and high tech centre. To maintain its competitive edge the government has opened, or is in the process of opening, the financial services, telecommunications, power generation and retailing sectors to foreign service providers and greater competition. As a result, we foresee increasing demand from corporations and financial institutions for specialists in these sectors.”
“With Jeff on board, we are better able to exploit the full potential of our Silicon Valley strength in Asia and meet the expectations of our global venture and technology clients, as well as to provide our corporate clients with pragmatic approaches and resolutions to the many complex business challenges in today’s dynamically changing environment,” said Mr Ong.
Nick Seddon, Asia Managing Director of DLA Piper, said: “Jeff’s appointment strengthens DLA Piper’s position as a leading corporate and technology practice in Asia. He is familiar with the various complex commercial and legal issues concerning the industry and business generally with a strong ability to lead, motivate and bond diverse and international groups into cohesive and focused high-performing teams that deliver positive business results.”
Tan holds a LLB Hons from the National University of Singapore, is a Senior Executive Program graduate of Kellogg’s Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University, USA and is admitted as advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Singapore and solicitor of England and Wales.
