R. Alexander Acosta, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Jonathan I. Solomon, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Julie Torres, Special Agent in Charge, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Robert Parker, Director, Miami-Dade Police Department, announced the arrests of defendants Osdrenel Padron , Osdraniel Padron Rodriguez , Joel Triana , Vladimir Oropeza Diaz , Dixan Rodriguez Rubalcava, and Laureano Chirino Rivera on federal robbery charges stemming from the armed robbery of a Brinks armored vehicle in the early morning of Friday, September 28, 2007, in Miami.
According to the complaint filed in the case, on September 28, 2007, at approximately 5:55 a.m., a Brinks armored vehicle arrived at the Publix Supermarket at 9050 Biscayne Blvd., Miami, Florida, to deliver money. As a Brinks messenger got out of the vehicle, he was grabbed from behind and put in a choke hold by a person wearing a mask and dark clothing and carrying a black pistol. This person forced the Brinks messenger to get back into the vehicle. A second subject then assisted in stealing $1,300,090.00 in U.S. currency from the Brinks vehicle.
Working through the day and night, federal and local investigators tracked down the six suspects, who made their initial appearance in federal court today. Two of the suspects, Rivera and Rubalcava, are Brinks employees. One suspect remains at large. A detention hearing is scheduled for defendant Rubalcava for October 3 at 10:00 a.m. and on October 4 at 10:00 a.m. for the other defendants.
U.S. Attorney Acosta stated, “With team work, communication, and cooperation between federal and local law enforcement, justice indeed came swiftly in this case. Through the investigators’ efforts, a large portion of the stolen money has already been recovered.”
FBI Special Agent in Charge Jonathan I. Solomon stated, “The quick arrest of these six defendants is due to the outstanding partnership among law enforcement agencies. These men did not even get to enjoy their ill-gotten gains for 24 hours before they were behind bars.”
Miami-Dade Police Director Robert Parker added, “This is another excellent example of the outstanding relationship that the Miami-Dade Police Department has fostered with federal law enforcement agencies. All of us working together with a common goal will continue to make a positive impact in our community.”
