Legal tech heavyweight Smkeball has rolled out a major global brand refresh, rallying around a singular ethos: “People-Law.”
After 14 years in the practice management space, the company isn’t changing its core software or leadership, but it’s changing how it tells its story, taking direct aim at the administrative burnout plaguing community-level practitioners.
What Is ‘People-Law’?
Big law chases mega-mergers, but “people-lawyers” handle life’s pivotal moments: buying a first home, settling an estate, or launching a local business.
Smokeball’s refresh positions its software and AI as the operational engine designed to eliminate non-billable drag, giving practitioners the headspace to focus on client advocacy and equal access to justice.
What’s New?
Developed after a year of in-depth interviews with lawyers across Australia, the US, and the UK, the new identity strips out corporate legal clichés:
- The Flag Logo: Features an “S” rising from an equals sign ($=$)—a visual nod to universal justice and advocacy.
- Power Orange: A warmer, high-energy evolution of Smokeball’s trademark orange, paired with natural cream tones.
- Zero Stock Photos: Every visual features real Smokeball clients, staff, and community members.
- No-Jargon Messaging: A clean, punchy communication style built for time-poor attorneys.
From the Founders
Law has always been, and will always be, a people business. Behind every matter is a client going through something that matters deeply to them and a lawyer working hard to help them through it. Our job has never been to replace human connection with technology, it’s to power it. To take the busywork off your plate so you have more time to focus on the people who need your help. That belief hasn’t changed, we just finally have the words, and the look, to say it clearly.

“This is about bringing who we are internally out to the world. Walk into any Smokeball office or event and you’ll feel the warmth and genuine care. That was always Smokeball. Now it’s our brand too.”
— Jane Oxley, Co-founder & COO
In an increasingly crowded practice management market chasing enterprise complexity, Smokeball is doubling down on the grass roots, being the solo and small-firm lawyers who form the backbone of the legal ecosystem.
