Strategic Expansion of European Practice; London Office Continues Growth

Kilpatrick Stockton announced today that Mary O’Connor has joined the firm’s London office as a partner in the Litigation Practice Group. Mary joins from Clifford Chance’s highly-regarded arbitration practice.

“Mary is another quality addition to our fast-growing London office,” said Bill Brewster, Kilpatrick Stockton Managing Partner. “Her far-reaching international practice provides an ideal complement to Kilpatrick Stockton’s overall growth strategy in many areas, including the firm’s expansion of its European presence and its Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Practice. And her years of experience in the telecommunications industry, including experience in competition issues, will be an important resource for the firm’s well-recognised Antitrust Practice.”

Ms. O’Connor’s announcement comes as Anthony Smith and Thomas Wilson, preeminent construction and international arbitration and dispute resolution attorneys, join Kilpatrick Stockton’s Atlanta office as partners. All three are key components to the firm’s extensive and expanding International Arbitration and Dispute Practice.

Ms. O’Connor’s career includes wide-ranging experience in international litigation and arbitration. She has served as advocate in more than 50 trials and arbitrations in the United States and Europe. Ms. O’Connor has represented multinational corporations, governments, and government entities in cases under the auspices of various institutions, including: the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the American Arbitration Association, the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law, the National Association of Securities Dealers, and before the US, Swedish, Finnish, Brazilian and Canadian courts. She has also conducted numerous internal investigations, particularly in relation to securities and investments, for high-profile US and European clients. Recent cases include: a prominent ICC arbitration worth over $1 billion; a hearing at the LCIA in a cross-border, multi-million dollar dispute; and a complex settlement which involved the restructuring of a country’s telecommunications system. Ms. O’Connor also worked for four years as an Assistant United States Attorney representing the United States Government in high-level criminal law investigations and cases.

“Mary’s practice will enable us to provide enhanced service to our clients in international arbitration and dispute resolution,” said Ken Boehner, Kilpatrick Stockton Managing Partner, London Office. “Mary is another example of Kilpatrick Stockton’s ongoing commitment to attract leading practitioners and enhance the firm’s growing presence in the market. The London office also recently announced the additions of internationally-recognised attorneys Helen Newman and Tim Johnson.”

Ms. O’Connor, a frequent lecturer on EU dispute telecoms resolution mechanisms, is a qualified solicitor in England and Wales, and admitted to the New York and Washington, D.C. bars. She earned her law degree, magna cum laude, at Georgetown University and has a Master’s degree from the London School of Economics.
