Stroock Expands Litigation Practice – Robert Wright, Jr. Joins as Partner

Miami, FL, July 10, 200 LAWFUEL – Law Firm Newswire – Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP (www.stroock.com), a national law firm with offices in Miami, New York and Los Angeles, announced that Robert Wright, Jr. has joined the firm’s Litigation Practice Group as a Partner, effective immediately.

“We are pleased to have Bob leading our litigation department here in Miami. He will be an important addition to our team, bringing his outstanding reputation and impressive client list to our office as we continue to expand the firm’s national practice platform in Miami,” said Manuel A. Fernandez, Managing Partner of Stroock’s Miami office.

Mr. Wright said, “This move provides an excellent opportunity for me to become a part of Stroock’s highly regarded national litigation practice.”

Last month Mr. Wright, already well known for his expertise in complex commercial litigation, persuaded a Florida trial court to deny class certification to a group of claimants in an action against a national corporation after Mr. Wright was able to demonstrate that the costs of notice and administration of such a class would have been disproportionate to the damages claimed.

Mr. Wright also has extensive experience dealing with state and federal agencies. He recently represented an insurance company in a formal administrative proceeding that resulted in a final order granting the company’s previously denied application for a certificate to do business in the State. Mr. Wright regularly represents companies in matters involving the Florida Attorney General’s Office and recently tried a contested week-long administrative hearing before the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation.

Mr. Wright acted as lead trial counsel for the successful bidder in a $3.1 billion hostile tender offer battle for a Florida insurance corporation and has defended financial institutions in more than 125 cases involving “lender liability” claims.

In a sports context, Mr. Wright represented The Big East Athletic Conference, the University of Pittsburgh, the University of West Virginia, Rutgers University and the University of Connecticut in litigation filed by the University of Miami in connection with its defection from the Big East to the Atlantic Coast Conference. Mr. Wright has also represented a number of individual athletes, including a reigning heavyweight champion, in various matters.

Mr. Wright also represents numerous California and foreign wine makers and vintners’ organizations in suits in both state and federal court involving the sale of wine and alcoholic beverages in Florida.

Mr. Wright received his J.D. from Columbia University School of Law in 1974 and his B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1968.
