Crain’s New York Business has named New York partners Michelle Kelban, Jiyeon Lee-Lim, and Claudia Salomon, to its list of Notable Women in Law for 2019. The annual list recognizes women with distinguished careers who demonstrate exemplary leadership skills and a deep commitment to civic, philanthropic, and mentoring activities.
Michelle Kelban, Global Co-Chair of Latham’s Real Estate Practice, focuses her practice on all aspects of commercial real estate law, with a particular concentration on real estate finance. She represents capital providers in a range of real estate transactional structures. In tandem with her successful commercial practice, Kelban maintains a thriving pro bono practice, including working with the Dance Theatre of Harlem, a multicultural dance institution that uses classical ballet and other art forms to change lives. In addition, she participates as a sponsor in The Beacon Group, which raises grant money for start-up nonprofits.
Jiyeon Lee-Lim, Global Chair of the firm’s Tax Department, serves as a sophisticated adviser on some of the most complicated cross-border tax issues that arise in corporate transactions around the world. Her practice focuses on matters involving international and corporate tax, with a particular emphasis on financial products, capital markets transactions, securitization transactions and cross-border tax planning. Additionally, through the firm’s pro bono partnership with Mount Sinai’s Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery, Lee-Lim has spent the last year working closely with individuals to effectuate their name changes.
Claudia Salomon, Global Co-Chair of the firm’s International Arbitration Practice, represents companies and states in highly complex international commercial arbitration and investment treaty arbitration. Salomon was the first female US member appointed to the International Chamber of Commerce International Court of Arbitration, an institution that aims to resolve international commercial disputes. In June 2018, she was appointed to the prestigious position of Vice President of the Court. Salomon also leads a range of pro bono matters, including several cases for the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) and American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) focused on voting rights issues.
