TORONTO, Canada (AUGUST 3, 2005) – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Stikeman Elliott announces the updated release of Litigation Unleashed, the firm’s complimentary guide to Ontario’s new Securities Act amendments. Often referred to as “Bill 198”, the amendments are to come into force on December 31, 2005, creating a stringent secondary market civil liability regime. The result will be a broadening of the potential liability exposure of Canadian public companies and their directors, officers and certain other advisors.

These amendments are a key component of Ontario’s legislative framework to provide strong investor protection in an attempt to restore confidence in capital markets, which is widely believed to have been shaken by scandals surrounding such companies as YBM, Livent and Enron.

“Litigation Unleashed is designed to help public companies and their advisors understand and respond to the challenges of Bill 198,” says Simon Romano, a securities partner in the Toronto office of Stikeman Elliott and one of the guide’s contributing editors.
