Transactions Attorney Phil Buffington Joins Adams and Reese Jackson Office

June 22 2011 – Adams and Reese is pleased to announce that transactions attorney Phil Buffington has joined Adams and Reese as Special Counsel in the Transactions Practice Group, practicing in the firm’s Jackson office.

Prior to joining Adams and Reese, Buffington served as managing member and member of a Mississippi-based law firm, MacNeill and Buffington, P.A. Buffington, a Mississippi native born in Canton, has been practicing law in Mississippi since 1984.

“Phil is an experienced transactions attorney, working with a diverse group of companies across various industries in Mississippi, and he will be a tremendous addition to our Jackson office,” said Adams and Reese Managing Partner Charles P. Adams, Jr.

Buffington’s transactions experience consists of representing financial institutions and other companies, including representation in regulatory matters, mergers and acquisitions, formations and divestitures and securities offerings and related issues. In addition, he has represented financial institutions and other companies in bankruptcy, corporate and commercial law matters. He also has experience in commercial litigation, insurance regulatory law, real estate and nonprofit and charitable organizations.

Buffington is admitted to practice in the Northern and Southern District Courts in Mississippi, the Northern and Southern Bankruptcy Courts in Mississippi, the Mississippi Supreme Court, United States Federal Court of Claims and the United States Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit.

He is a member of various sections within the American Bar Association, including the Banking Law Committee. He is also a member of the Business Law Section and Real Property Section of the Mississippi Bar Association. In addition, he is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Mississippi Bankruptcy Conference.

Buffington is a former President and Treasurer of the Mississippi College School of Law Alumni, and a former adjunct professor in banking law. He earned his J.D. from Mississippi College School of Law in 1984. He double majored in banking and finance/insurance at University of Mississippi, earning a B.B.A. in 1981.

In the community, he is involved with St. Andrew’s Episcopal Cathedral, having served in various positions and on numerous committees. He is also a former board member of Habitat for Humanity/Metro Jackson, Inc., and volunteers at Jackson Futbol Club, a nonprofit youth soccer organization, of which he is currently serving as Past President.
