US Attorney – Fifteen Indicted On Alien Smuggling Charges

Mangione, Special Agent in Charge, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Matthew Zetts, Chief Patrol Agent, U.S. Border Patrol, Harold Woodward, Director of Field Operations, Customs and Border Protection, and John Beutlich, Director of Air Operations, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, announce the indictments of fifteen individuals, all charged with alien smuggling and related offenses involving the attempted smuggling of 170 foreign nationals into the United States.

On June 26 and 27, 2008, federal grand juries in Key West and Miami returned nine separate indictments charging defendants Rolando Tito-Vega, Dubierkis Almeida-Morejon, Ernesto Diaz-Rodriguez, Carlos Montero-Delgado, Yosley Baez-Cordero, Narciso Carrillo-Rodriguez, Angel Cespedes-Osorio, Leonet Gonzalez, Abelardo Otero-Bautista, Luis Grenada-Mena, Yuelvis Mena-Garcia, Jose Cremades. Robert R. Perez, Renzo Oscar Sanchez-Ruiz, and Alexander Barasena-Brito with conspiracy to smuggle aliens, encouraging and inducing aliens to enter the United States, and fleeing from U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Officers. If convicted, each defendant faces a statutory maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment.

United States v. Rolando Tito-Vega, Case No. 08-10045-CR-MARTINEZ. Rolando Tito-Vega, 32, of Miami FL, is charged with attempting to illegally re-enter the United States on June 19, 2008.

United States v. Dubierkis Almeida-Morejon and Ernesto Diaz-Rodriguez, Case No.08-10050-CR- MARTINEZ. Dubierkis Almeida-Morejon, 31, of Miami, FL, and Ernesto Diaz Rodriguez, 34, of Miami, FL, are charged with conspiracy to smuggle aliens and encouraging and inducing thirty-two Cuban nationals to come to the United States in February 2007.
United States v. Carlos Montero-Delgado and Yosley Baez-Cordero, Case No. 08-10046-CR-MARTINEZ. Carlos Montero-Delgado, 36, of Cape Coral, FL, and Yosley Baez-Cordero, 24, of Hialeah, FL, are charged with conspiring to smuggle aliens and encouraging and inducing twenty-four Cuban Nationals to come to the United States in November 2007.
United States v. Narciso Carrillo-Rodriguez and Angel Cespedes-Osorio, Case No. 08-10047-CR-MARTINEZ. Narciso Carrillo-Rodriguez, 39, of Big Pine Key, FL, and Angel Cespedes-Osorio, 34, of Miami, FL, are charged with conspiracy to smuggle aliens and encouraging and inducing thirty-four Cuban nationals to come to the United States in June 2007.
United States v. Leonet Gonzalez and Abelardo Otero-Bautista, Case No. 08-10049-CR-MARTINEZ. Leonet Gonzalez, 34, of Miami, FL, and Abelardo Otero-Bautista, 37, of Hialeah, FL, are charged with conspiracy to smuggle aliens and encouraging and inducing twenty-seven Cuban nationals to come to the United States in June 2008.
United States v. Luis Granado-Mena and Yuelvis Mena-Garcia, Case No. 08-10051-CR-MARTINEZ. Luis Granado-Mena, 29, of Hialeah, FL, and Yuelvis Mena-Garcia, 35, of Miami Beach, FL, are charged with conspiracy to smuggle aliens and encouraging and inducing twenty Cuban nationals to come to the United States in March 2008.
United States v. Jose Cremades, Case No. 08-10048-CR-MARTINEZ. Jose Cremades, 31, of Homestead, FL, is charged with encouraging and inducing twenty-two Cuban nationals to come to the United States, fleeing from law enforcement officers, and illegally entering Cuban territorial waters in April 2008.
United States v. Roberto R. Perez and Renzo Oscar Sanchez-Ruiz, Case No. 08-20593-CR-ALTONAGA. Roberto R. Perez, 42, of Miami, FL, and Renzo Oscar Sanchez-Ruiz, 51, of Miami FL, are charged with conspiracy to smuggle aliens, encouraging and inducing 15 foreign nationals to come to the United States, including a previously convicted and deported felon, and fleeing from law enforcement officers in June 2008.
United States v. Alexander Barasena-Brito, Case No. 08-20590-CR-COHN. Alexander Barasena-Brito, 32, of the Dominican Republic, is charged with attempting to illegally re-enter the United States in June 2008.
Mr. Acosta commended the cooperation and investigative efforts of the 7th Coast Guard District, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, U.S. Border Patrol, Customs and Border Protection – Field Operations, and Customs and Border Protection – Miami Air and Marine. These cases are being handled by AUSAs assigned to the Major Crimes Section.
