US Legal – Winstead’s Barrett Howell Elected as President of The PLAN Fund

Dallas, Dec. 15, 2008 – LawFuel- US Legal Newswire – Barrett Howell, an attorney with the law firm Winstead PC, has been elected president of The PLAN Fund, a Dallas-based non-profit, micro-finance lending organization that was spun off from Grameen Foundation, U.S.A. in 2002.

The PLAN Fund (www.planfund.org) was originated by two entrepreneurial women who realized that low-income women could successfully rely upon self-employment as a means of elevating themselves out of economic hardship, were they not excluded from formal credit markets. The program combines a hands-on entrepreneur training class, a dynamic peer-support program and micro-credit.

The hub of PLAN Fund activity occurs at six different business centers located in parts of Dallas with greater economic development needs. Since its inception, the PLAN Fund has distributed 487 business loans worth more than $715,000 and has provided business training to almost 2,750 people. The average loan size is approximately $1,475. Howell is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas, the Dallas Bar Association and the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers. He is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Southern, Northern, Western and Eastern Districts of Texas. He received his J.D. from Southern Methodist University, Dedman School of Law.
