Washington, DC – 15 February 2005 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Corporate & Finance attorneys Andrew J. Sherman and Alan J. Schaeffer joined the Washington, DC office of Dickstein Shapiro Morin & Oshinsky LLP as Partners on February 1, 2005. The two Partners enhance Dickstein Shapiro’s Corporate & Finance Group by adding depth to a number of areas, including franchising, emerging business, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property transactions, and capital formation.

Mr. Sherman is a well-known business attorney, as well as an author and professor. Previously a Partner with McDermott, Will & Emery, he focuses his legal practice on issues affecting business growth for companies at all stages, including developing strategies to leverage intellectual property and technology assets, as well as international corporate transactional and franchising matters. Mr. Sherman has served as a legal and strategic advisor to dozens of Fortune 500 companies and hundreds of emerging growth companies. He also provides legal and strategic advice to address such issues as franchising, licensing, joint ventures, strategic alliances, capital formation, distribution channels, technology development, and mergers and acquisitions. He is the author of 13 books on the legal and strategic aspects of business growth, franchising, capital formation, and the leveraging and licensing of intellectual property. His new book, Raising Capital: Get the Money You Need to Grow Your Business, 2nd ed., will be published this month by the American Management Association.

Mr. Sherman serves as an adjunct professor in the University of Maryland’s Masters of Business Administration Program (M.B.A.), and in Georgetown University’s M.B.A. Program. He earned his J.D. from American University-Washington College of Law and his B.A. from the University of Maryland.

Mr. Schaeffer, also a former Partner at McDermott, Will & Emery, focuses his practice on advising companies on merger and acquisition transactions, securities offerings, business structure, technology and brand licensing, joint ventures and strategic alliances, franchise and dealership transactions, and general corporate matters. He also advises franchisors and manufacturers with respect to all aspects of program development and implementation, distribution channel management, and regulatory compliance.

Mr. Schaeffer also has served as an adjunct professor in the University of Maryland’s M.B.A. program. He earned his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and his B.S. from Cornell University.
