WASHINGTON, Oct. 12 2004 LAWFUEL – Law, e-commerce law, legal, attorney newsAckerson Kauffman Fex, PC (“AKF”)
announced today the addition of e-commerce legal expert Henry Wolfgang Carter
as senior counsel. Mr. Carter, formerly Chief Compliance Officer for E*TRADE
Securities, Inc. and Assistant General Counsel for E*TRADE Group, Inc., is
currently a member of the California Senate Advisory Committee on Cost Control
in State Government and is a frequent speaker in the United States and Europe
on issues involving securities laws and the Internet.

AKF (formed as The Ackerson Group in 1994) is a nationally-recognized
boutique complex litigation firm, known for its successful prosecution of
individual and class action suits brought by property owners against some of
the country’s largest railroads and telecommunications companies and against
the Federal Government in Fifth Amendment taking actions.

Nels Ackerson sees the addition of the e-commerce practice as an extension
of the firm’s growth in developing areas of law. “We serve many industries,”
he said, “but our focus is on emerging fields of commerce and policy that
change the status quo. Our clients’ goals require creative solutions, often
in uncharted legal territory. Henry Carter’s accomplishments in e-commerce
show that he succeeds with that focus.”

With the addition of Mr. Carter, AKF will have offices in Washington, D.C.
and Palo Alto, California, between which Mr. Carter will divide his time. His
consulting practice, advising financial services firms on e-commerce and
related regulatory issues, will continue.

Carter says his new firm’s Washington presence and national reputation in
litigation broaden the scope of services that he offers to e-commerce clients
and financial services firms. “We have barely begun to adapt our legal
institutions to the business realities of e-commerce,” he said. “I have been
most impressed by this firm’s success in challenging vested interests in order
to create solutions for clients in emerging areas of the law.”

AKF’s practice includes trials, appellate advocacy, regulatory matters,
amicus work, and legislative strategy. In addition to right-of-way matters,
recent cases have included biotechnology, international employment contracts,
and constitutional rights litigation for Fortune 500 companies, cities, farm
organizations, small and mid-sized businesses and individuals.
