LAWFUEL – Legal News Network – Michael K. Lowman has joined Jenner & Block as a Partner in the Firm’s Securities Litigation Practice. Most recently Assistant Chief Litigation Counsel for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Enforcement, Mr. Lowman brings more than 14 years of trial and regulatory experience to the Firm. He will be located in the Firm’s Washington, DC office.
During his five years at the SEC, Mr. Lowman rose to primary trial counsel in a wide variety of civil and administrative enforcement actions brought in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and elsewhere. He also supervised the Division of Enforcement’s investigative staff attorneys in litigated matters. During Mr. Lowman’s tenure at the Commission, Mr. Lowman investigated, and where necessary tried, complex financial fraud cases, matters involving insider trading, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violations, and potential U.S. securities law violations by an off-shore brokerage firm and transfer agents. As a result, Mr. Lowman received two Division Director Awards for his contributions to the Commission as a trial attorney.
Prior to the SEC, Mr. Lowman practiced for nearly eight years at large New York and Washington, DC law firms. During this period, he handled numerous high stakes corporate and commercial cases, including those involving shareholder class and derivative actions, investigations, complex multi-party construction matters, commercial contract litigation, insurance coverage disputes, trademark and copyright litigation and consumer class action defense.
Mr. Lowman also served as clerk to The Honorable Howard S. Chasanow, Court of Appeals of Maryland, after obtaining his law degree from The American University, Washington College of Law, summa cum laude, where he was senior articles editor for The American University Law Review.
