(CHICAGO) – LAWFUEL – Law News Network – DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary US LLP has announced that Adam Meek has joined the firm’s Real Estate practice group as a partner in the Chicago office. He joins DLA Piper from Katten Muchin Rosenman.
Meek has practiced environmental law for 15 years with a concentration on managing the risks and liabilities associated with the acquisition or disposition of properties with adverse environmental conditions in connection with various real estate, corporate and financing transactions. He has experience in all areas of environmental law, including site remediation and liability management, environmental litigation and enforcement defense, transactional guidance, regulatory compliance counseling, and environmental insurance.
Meek has worked on numerous multi-facility, $100+ million transactions involving the acquisition and sale of properties and companies with serious environmental and safety issues. In these transactions, his experience ranges from ensuring comprehensive due diligence to drafting efficient and effective contractual provisions to protect the client’s interests. He also has extensive experience with the full range of insurance options available to manage environmental risks and facilitate transactions involving properties or companies with serious environmental problems.

Meek has advised clients on violations, liabilities and permitting issues arising under various federal statutes and associated regulations governing the generation, use, storage, transportation and/or release of hazardous substances, including The Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, The Toxic Substances Control Act, The Emergency Planning and Community Right-To-Know Act, The Clean Water Act, and The Clean Air Act. He also has experience with a broad range of State environmental laws and regulatory programs.
He has represented clients at numerous CERCLA (Superfund) sites throughout the country, including serving as common counsel to the Steering Committee for the PCB Treatment, Inc. Site in Kansas City, which had over 2000 responsible parties, including several of the largest utilities in the country and the United States Department of Defense. He has also developed substantial experience in managing the risks and liabilities associated with sites contaminated with munitions and explosives of concern (MEC) and munitions constituents, including former munitions manufacturing facilities.
Meek received a B.A. from the University of Michigan, and a J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law. He is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and the Interstate Technology and Regulatory Council.
