This made the setting-up of the so-called Iraqi High Tribunal to try Saddam illegal.
Meanwhile Iraqi governmetn officials say On repors the ropes used in the hangings were prepared according to international standards and that the execution room was designed to make the operation as merciful as possible, he said he did not know the number of knots in the rope, nor its material and length because these are technical specifics. However, he said he knew they all conformed to international standards.
The official Spokesman of the Iraqi Government Ali Al-Dabagh had mentioned that the gallows were designed according to international standards and that the ceiling was 18 feet high allowing a merciful drop of the body upon execution.
