LAWFUEL – The Law Newswire – A 19-year-old Sri Lankan woman, convicted of strangling a 4-month-old baby, faces execution by beheading in Saudi Arabia.
Disputed claims about how the baby died, with the maid saying the child choked when she was bottle feeding him, have added to a growing international uproar over her impending execution.
Sri Lankan government officials said Rizana Nafeek had only been in the country a few weeks when the incident happened and claim attempts to defend her were hampered by Saudi delays in issuing visas.
UPI report Saudi Arabia beheaded four Sri Lankans in February for armed robbery and their bodies were put on public display in Riyadh.
The country has beheaded 102 people this year in accordance with Islamic law, including three women, the report said.
