LAWFUEL – The Legal Newswire – International law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has been appointed to represent the Government of Bahrain on the proposed development of the Al Dur independent water and power plant in Bahrain with a capacity of up to 2000MW.

Joe Huse, the partner leading the Freshfields team from the Dubai office said, ‘We are very pleased to represent the Government of Bahrain on this high profile power and water deal in Bahrain.’

The team includes, of counsel Harnek Shoker (Dubai) and senior associate William Breeze (London).

This is the third power deal that Freshfields has been appointed to advise on in Bahrain. Last year Freshfields advised the Government of Bahrain on the $738.2m sale of the Al Hidd water and power plant to a consortium of International Power, Sumitomo Corporation and Suez Tractebal, which marked the first privatisation of an existing power and water generation asset in Bahrain. In 2005 the firm represented the Government of Bahrain on the development of the Al Ezzel 1,000MW independent power plant.
